A Meals and Drug Administration panel is meeting Thursday to vote on whether or not to advocate the approval of Moderna‘s coronavirus vaccine for emergency use.

Earlier than the vote, which is predicted to come back on the finish of the day, the company’s Vaccines and Associated Organic Merchandise Advisory Committee will evaluate and debate Moderna’s scientific trial information and provide their opinions on the vaccine, together with whether or not the advantages outweigh the dangers for an emergency use authorization.

The FDA is not required to observe the advisory group’s recommendation, nevertheless it typically does.

A positive vote from the committee will seemingly clear the trail for the FDA to approve Moderna’s vaccine for emergency use. It will be the second authorised to be used within the U.S. behind Pfizer’s vaccine.

The all-day assembly is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. till 5:15 p.m.
